Magical Indigenism

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Art · Subcategory: Urban art · Year: 2011 · Authors: Roberto Perdomo

Created in 2011 by the urban artist Roberto Perdomo, this mural located just at the exit of the village of El Tablero symbolises the enormous aboriginal past of this whole area.

It represents two mythical figures (male and female) of the culture existing on the islands before the arrival of the Europeans, adorned with various elements found in the numerous archaeological sites near the settlement of El Tablero.

Following in the footsteps of the great murals of the Mexican indigenists, in this one in El Tablero, we see represented such important aspects of Canarian aboriginal culture as the banots, the ritual bowls and the Amazigh inscriptions, which accompany the two anthropomorphic figures we observe.
