Las Teresitas Viewpoint

This space, not officially designated as a viewpoint, is configured as a place from which one can admire extraordinary views. Located at the top of the hillside of the Los Órganos mountain, which closes off Las Teresitas beach to the north, it was once occupied by an old factory for obtaining picón, hence the place is also known as "la piconera". It is accessed via the road towards Igueste de San Andrés (TF-121), after winding along the hillside behind Las Teresitas beach.

From the viewpoint, located at a considerable height above sea level, the views are impressive. Looking south, we find the beach just below, and extending the view we get a spectacular vision of the city of Santa Cruz, as well as the southern coastal outline of Tenerife; on clear days we can even see the impressive image of Mount Teide rising above the island's orographic profile. Conversely, if we direct our gaze to the opposite side, that is to the north, we enjoy the view over the rugged coast of the Anaga peninsula that extends to the cliff of the maritime semaphore of Igueste de San Andrés, with cliffs dropping vertically into the sea.

Some stones serve as railings, ruins of the old factory there act as makeshift rubbish dumps. It lacks lighting and also any signage or explanatory panels about the impressive views it offers. It is a shame that a place with so much potential from a landscape point of view is in such a state of neglect.
