Pico del Inglés Viewpoint
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Leisure · Subcategory: Viewpoints
Located in the heart of the Anaga Rural Park, the Pico del Inglés viewpoint presents itself as a place of utmost interest. It is situated more than 900 metres above sea level, in a lush area accessed via the TF-114 road. From the viewpoint, a beautiful view dominates. Looking eastwards on clear days, the entire massif up to the city of Santa Cruz can be seen. To the west, the island of Tenerife itself rises majestically from the sea with the Teide crowning it. On days when the fog does not occupy the place, a frequent occurrence due to its location exposed to the moist trade winds, one can also enjoy the presence, on one side, of the island of Gran Canaria, and even, on the other, of La Palma.
In a display of simplicity, the viewpoint has hardly any infrastructure: a car park, a short well-equipped passageway that allows easy change of slope, and a larger fenced area at the summit itself. Trail lovers should not forget that several paths start from the viewpoint leading to the Taborno and Valleseco ravines.
Its views over the spectacular nearby laurel forest give us an idea of the large amount of water and humidity accumulated in the area; reminding us that very close to this site, in past times, the city of Santa Cruz found the water springs for its supply. The water was transported to the city through a complicated network of wooden channels that overcame the difficult orography.
