Los Campitos Dam

The dam in the Los Campitos neighbourhood is a tangible example of one of the greatest construction failures in the field of public works in the Canary Islands. 

In the mid-1960s, an important hydraulic project was planned to collect the running waters flowing through the ravines near the hamlet of Los Campitos. The dam, after enormous excavations and arduous work, was completed in 1975, but it never became operational. Neither the location was suitable, nor were the materials used, so this colossal work has remained unused and with a significant visual impact on the surrounding landscape. Its only use today is as a sports circuit for runners and walkers.
