Single-family Home for Ramón Barrera

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 2001 · Authors: Virgilio Gutiérrez Herreros, Blas Pérez Ojeda

This building, situated at the top of the slope of the La Leña Ravine, was designed in 1998 by architects Virgilio Gutiérrez and Blas Pérez Ojeda commissioned by developer Ramón Barrera Balsells.

Set on very challenging terrain due to its slope, the construction rests on a large platform emerging from the mountain itself. On this platform the garden is arranged and from there the two floors of the house rise, staggered on the sides so that all rooms take advantage of the wonderful views.

The stairs, vestibules and bathrooms on the opposite side, adjacent to the exposed mountain wall, receive light through large skylights.

The exterior appearance of this house, completed in 2001, is a superb combination of materials: concrete, whitewashed walls, wooden boards and large glass windows.

The house is located in a high area of the Residencial Anaga neighbourhood and enjoys privileged views over part of the city of Santa Cruz and its port.
