Housing for the Sociedad de Edificaciones y Reforma Urbanas
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1901-1903 · Authors: Federico Solé y Escabia
These buildings are a good example of architecture intended for middle-upper class housing in early 20th-century Santa Cruz.
Located on Avenida 25 de Julio, in the heart of the Los Hoteles neighbourhood, they were commissioned by the Sociedad de Edificaciones y Reformas Urbanas (SERU) in 1901 to the technician Federico Soler, who died shortly after signing the project. Construction was undertaken by his successor as the company’s technical director, Mariano Estanga.
The complex features elegant façades with very regular openings and ironwork. Inside, the decoration stands out, with Art Nouveau elements adorning the main rooms.
