The birthplace of writer Pérez Galdós takes centre stage at this museum. Galdós lived for the first 19 years of his life at this family home located in the district of Triana, the main shopping area in town at the time. The building is a fine example of Canary domestic architecture from the 19th century, following a traditional layout around two central courtyards. It maintains all its original structures and materials, with a few modifications to cater for the museum contents. As far as the museum design for the permanent exhibitions is concerned, the rooms are set out as a documented recreation of the domestic and family environments around the time of the writer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria firsty, and then later on, in Madrid and Santander. Its rooms are home to Pérez Galdós' own furniture, works of art, photographs, decorative objects and musical instruments. All of these are testimony to the physical surroundings of the daily life of the novelist, placing us right back into the 19th century.
