This exhibition space is located in the historic defensive building of the Castillo de Mata, a civil work begun in the 16th century. The intervention carried out by architect Ricardo Montesdeoca in 2013 adapted the fortress to create a space to house the so-called Museum of the City and the Sea, which was dedicated to the history of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Currently its rooms are dedicated to hosting temporary exhibitions.
