Casa Quintana (Vegueta)

This property located on Castillo Street, whose main façade faces Espíritu Santo Square, was begun at the initiative of the Quintana family at the beginning of the 19th century and completed in 1824, as stated by an inscription on its staircase. It possibly occupied the space of a much older building previously existing there and whose interior layout preserves the two typical courtyards of traditional Canarian architecture. 

The house presents one of the most severe and austere façades of architectural classicism in the Canary Islands. It appears divided by ashlar pilasters between which rise three stone panels with openings grouped in pairs, topped by pediments. Above the main door there is a small wooden balcony. The ensemble is crowned by a longitudinal entablature, on which rests a magnificent balustrade topped by perillions (pear-shaped ornaments placed above the flowerpots).

Apparently, the building also featured on its splendid exterior a noble coat of arms of the Quesada family made of white marble, now disappeared.
