The Casa Rodríguez Quetgles

This house was made to the designs of Fernando Navarro (1900), who followed the first plans by Mariano Belmás, being home to the Music Conservatory for many years. Today it has been restored and is being used by the General Headquarters of the Heritage Department at the Canary Government. It is on two floors, and is strikingly similar to the buildings a little further along from Ciudad Jardín, being set back a little, separated by dividing lines and surrounded by gardens. It has a square base, broken up at its vertexes, and slots in symmetrically with the rest of the calle Pérez Galdós -despite being a corner property-, with a clearly defined central axis. This axis is defined by the staircase, gateway, lobby, the two flights of stairs and a transversal courtyard. The rooms occupy its perimetre, and are set around a central gallery crossway. Another side entrance goes from the parking space to the service staircase. The façade is eclectic in style, and is a laboriously worked ordered design with a fusion of different planes including some neo-Egyptian touches. The elevation to the calle Perdomo is rounded off by a watch tower on its axis, while the side walls feature bow-windows which set out the first centre line, with some wooden polygonal balconies.
