Claudio de la Torre (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1895 - Madrid, 1973), was a cosmopolitan character, with impeccable manners, and was a poet, novelist, drama writer and even film director. He was awarded the prestigious National Literature Prize on three occasions in his role as a writer. His figure represented an extremely fine European sensitivity, and he dealt with his diverse literary and drama genres with sheer elegance and lucidity.

He started his literary activity with El canto diverso. His most representative works include Tic tac, Hotel Terminus, El cerco, Verano de Juan el Chino and En la vida del señor Alegre.
