Chronicler Martín Moreno

Francisco Pérez García (1916-2007) joined La Provincia as an editor in 1935, using the pseudonym Martín Moreno. He was a multifaceted author: director, screenwriter and film maker; actor and playwright; but above all, he was a true journalist by vocation.
“He appeared moments before the performance, with clothes under his arm. Colonel Cullen saw him and called him. With Juan Torres already by his side, the colonel turned to General de la Plaza:
- Here, my general, is one of our great artists.
- Very well, young man. We will applaud you.
About half an hour after the parade of attractions began, a truly sensational “guayabo” came forward to sing on stage. The real female stepped firmly forward to the proscenium and from there respectfully greeted the general with a delicate nod of the head. The military man was astonished in return, only understanding the presence of that lady on stage when the remembered colonel whispered to him:
- It’s the “machito” I introduced you to earlier, my general.”
