This monument offers a tribute to the traditional Canary nautical sport from the eastern coastline of the island. The protagonist is an elevated bronze sail rising above elements symbolizing the moving tide, over an inverted boat shell. The location of the sculpture right on the sea edge, right where the former harbour of San Telmo was situated, highlights the highly popular fervor this sporting discipline holds for the poeple of Las Palmas, and is where the small marine vessels sail around on competition days.
