A detail that becomes tangible, from a thematic point of view, is the tendency towards representing not only contemporary figures but also aboriginal ones, as well as monuments springing up as rememberance of our culture, including that from pre hispanic times. This work eludes all individuality, and given the motive that prompts them, marked by a strong scenic presence, are conceived with greater scale, as is displayed by Monument to Canary Activities by Luis Montull, financed by the Las Palmas Town Hall to mark the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the founding of the city. It is located on a roundabout recently built as part of a new road system at the end of the Avenida Mesa y López. It is made out of the red stone from Tamadaba, as a symbol of the island's idiosyncratic nature. The figures conform to the usual expressionalist lines of their author, and are set over an uneven base, to represent the works held over the years by the local inhabitants, including fishing, agriculture, pottery, etc.
