Bartolomé Cairasco de Figueroa (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1538-1610) was a dramatist, poet, translator and musician, and the leading exponent in Canary arts in the Golden Age. His work as a cannon did not stop him from carrying out great literary works. These made him burst onto the world of Canary classic literature, with the legend of Doramas appearing as his basic feature. His most representative and ambitious poetry was a work called the Templo Militante, a compendium of the lives and works of saints covering the whole saints' calendar. As a translator, his outstanding work was his version of Jerusalem Liberata by Tasso, under the title of Godofredo famoso.
