Madagascar Almond Tree

This is one of the most unique trees in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This Madagascar almond tree ( Terminalia mantaly ) is located in the upper part of Parque García Sanabria, in a place where its stature stands out notably.

The specimen, nearly four metres tall, is distinguished by its straight trunk and the breadth of the crown formed by branches arranged more or less horizontally. The leaves are distributed in groups of different lengths at the tips of very short thick twigs. The flowers appear in summer and last well into autumn, branching into axillary spikes of white and yellowish colour.

It belongs to the Combretaceae family. Its origin is the Indian island of Madagascar. The stature of this specimen is of a contrasting elegance.
