The cascalote ( Caesalpinia cancalaco ) is a tree-like shrub from the Fabaceae family. It is native to Mexico and can reach 4-6 metres in height, with branches equipped with spines and alternate, bipinnate leaves. The flowers can reach 1.5 cm in diameter, with a subcampanulate calyx and a corolla of five yellow or orange petals with red lines.

Next to the frog pond in Parque García Sanabria, we can admire a magnificent cascalote specimen over four metres tall that bursts into flower in spring and early summer, highlighting its magnificent stature.
