El Bufadero Anti-Aircraft Battery

At the site where we find these ruins today there was a coastal battery since the 17th century that formed part of the defence network of the bay of Santa Cruz. Forgotten for a time, in 1898, due to the Cuban War, work began on the construction of a new artillery redoubt.

During the Second World War this military complex was supplemented with some reinforced concrete constructions, and a couple of cannons were installed. During this conflict, warning shots were fired from this battery at some British planes, the famous Catalinas , which frequently approached the port to observe and photograph the German ships anchored nearby.

Today what remains of the construction, in a ruinous state, lies outside the shoreline it once occupied.
