This time, intrigue and danger unfold on the last night of an October month, the eve of All Saints’ Day, a date when the capital of Gran Canaria could be devastated by strange events. 

“For the first time in many days the sun came out. The weather in Las Palmas is sometimes erratic and indecisive, in its own way another Dr House: it listens to what the meteorologists say and then does whatever it fancies. The sun came out, the haze lifted and we started shedding jackets, shirts and, if you ask me, even skin. I sought the shade of the buildings as I climbed Primero de Mayo to catch the number two bus, a line that would take me right to the doors of Ruiz de Alda. Opposite the stop there was an out-of-place and crazy place, an old factory where rubber stamps were made. Rubber stamps? At a time when three or four businesses closed every day, the rubber shop seemed a true miracle to me.”
