This park is set in a neighbourhood location which, together with Escaleritas, signalled the start of the district of Ciudad Alta. This was a new concept, almost a whole new refounding, for a city with over 5 centuries of history behind it, a city that continues to grow inland, and which already featured in urban expansion plans put together by Secundino Zuazo in 1944. The square, soon after its design and building, was devoted to the memory of D. Benito Pérez Galdós, the most universal of Canarian literary writers, as most of the adjacent streets were to leading characters and events that featured in his extensive literary works, thanks to the proposal that the captial's Town Hall put forward to Telde poet Saulo Torón, who have done the same thing, over several decades and with different initiatives led by local residents, turning it into an authentic Galdós neighbourhood [...]
