In 1991 the Official College of Quantity Surveyors and Technical Architects of Tenerife (COAAT) celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation (1941-1991) and to commemorate this event it gifted the city of Santa Cruz with this sculpture.

The author, Fernando Garciarramos, conceived a young woman with long hair flowing in the air, her body transformed into the trunk of a tree, and her hair and arms into branches, drawing inspiration for its execution from the junipers twisted by the trade winds.

Originally Arbórea was located on Avenida Marítima, in front of the Hacienda building, and was moved a few years ago to its current location on Avenida de Anaga, at the junction between the city and the maritime station.
