Fishing Boat Corbeta

The popular fishing boat Corbeta was placed in its current location in March 2021 as a tribute to the people connected to the sea, who were the majority in this area.

This vessel sailed for many years along the coasts of Anaga, dedicated to the hard work of artisanal fishing. Its countless catches arrived at the town of San Andrés for distribution and sale. The ship also served to transport the Virgen del Carmen, co-patron saint of this old village of sailors and fishermen, on the occasion of her feast every last Sunday of July. 

The boat belonged to the fisherman and resident of the San Andrés neighbourhood Manuel Fernández "El Chocolate". After its useful life, the vessel remained for years anchored in the area designated for fishing boats on Las Teresitas beach. From there it was moved to a depot, from where it was rescued by the neighbourhood association El pescador to be finally located near the Castillo de San Andrés, another landmark of the village.

The Corbeta , after several restorations, displays its typical seafaring figure of the traditional Canarian fishing fleet. The boat has become a true symbol representing the fishing tradition of the San Andrés population centre.
