Horizontes Building

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1985 · Authors: Juan Carlos Díaz-Llanos, Andrés Piñeiro

This construction, designed in 1980 by architects Juan Carlos Díaz-Llanos and Andrés Piñeiro, is one of the most interesting erected in Residencial Anaga, an area also known as Urbanización Anaga, a residential neighbourhood established on former banana plantations that existed there until the late 1970s, when the neighbourhood began to be urbanised, becoming fully consolidated in the following decade.

Completed in 1985, the Horizontes is a building whose large mass is divided into vertical elements. The concrete façade, stone-coloured monocouche render and its ingenious blinds, all based on a profile derived from octagonal geometry, give the whole a landmark character.

Landscaped bases of exposed concrete and a free floor supported by pillars uphold the eleven storeys of the building, which rises forming a compact and singular mass.
