López Marrero Building

This building, located on the Rambla de las Asuncionistas, was designed between 1935 and 1936 by the Gran Canarian architect Miguel Martín Fernández de la Torre for the owner José López Marrero.

It is one of the few works by this architect carried out in Santa Cruz after 1934, when Miguel Martín stopped receiving commissions in Tenerife due to the very unfortunate insular dispute, which was topical at that time.

The López Marrero building, conceived under the guidelines of rationalist architecture, is a three-storey residential construction.  

In its sober exterior appearance, on the ground floor it features a roughcast finish up to half height between the two access openings: the entrance door and the wide garage door. The façade is set back on its left section to accommodate two balconies covered by concrete canopies and enclosed by tubular and metal mesh railings. The building is topped with a flat roof. 

The López Marrero building, with its sober simplicity of forms and proven functionality, presents itself as a modest yet magnificent example of the best rationalist architecture built in the city of Santa Cruz.
