Casa Pisaca

In this picturesque building erected at the beginning of the 20th century over an older 18th-century construction, is located the headquarters of the Asociación de Vecinos Luz y Vida (Light and Life Neighbourhood Association) of the El Toscal neighbourhood. This association, founded in 1970, was moved here at the beginning of the 1990s after its original headquarters located in the former Ciudad Juvenil (Youth City) was demolished.  Highly esteemed in the neighbourhood, it is dedicated to organising cultural and recreational activities, energising the life of the local community.

The original house, designed in 1901 by the technician Federico Solé, belonged to the Pisaca family, and was rehabilitated and adapted for its new use at the beginning of the 1990s by the architects Juan Carlos Díaz-Llanos and Fernando Beautell.

It has a vertical structure of load-bearing walls made of stone and mud on the ground floor, and brick on the upper floor, highlighting on its façade the combination of wooden elements with the glazing of the exterior openings. Inside, the building was given spacious areas, extending the entire body to align with Santiago Street, so that a large lounge could be gained on the upper floor and another on the lower floor.

Casa Pisaca is situated between two very different adjoining spaces in terms of their use and typology, to which it naturally adapts. On one side, a century-old citadel in good condition and still in use; and on the other side, sports courts that are frequently used.
