Church of the Sacred Heart
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Religious architecture · Year: 1977 · Authors: Enrique Rumeu de Armas
This temple is located at the junction of Enrique Wolfson and Horacio Nelson streets, where not only the religious building is found but also a landscaped square. The project was carried out in 1971 by architect Enrique Rumeu, who satisfactorily resolved the problem of the unevenness of the plot between the two streets.
The complex is configured by a plan composed of two superimposed triangles to which a bay is added where the parish house and office are located. On the outside, reinforced concrete is combined with unplastered blocks, all topped by a copper roof. Inside, emphasis is placed on the singularity of one point above the others on the plane, the place where the altar and tabernacle are located. On the other hand, the height configuration causes the ceiling in its gradual ascent to turn the interior into a space of great amplitude, although quite dark and poorly ventilated.
The church was completed and consecrated in November 1977.
