Hardisson Building
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1937 · Authors: Enrique Rumeu de Armas
The architect Enrique Rumeu de Armas designed the project for this rationalist typology building in 1937 for the owner Rafael Hardisson.
Located at the corner of La Rambla with the upper end of San Martín street, Rumeu resolves the junction through an interesting curved chamfer, where he places the entrance to the building. The façade presents a clear symmetrical distribution of the openings, separated by pilasters. Some curious oculi, clearly referencing naval architecture, are arranged on the side façades, on both sides of the chamfer. The ground floor is decorated with dynamic horizontal mouldings.
This is a magnificent example of the best rationalist architecture in the city, created by an author, Rumeu, who would soon abandon this style to explore a completely different aesthetic.
