Los Sucesos Printing House
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1876
This printing house was the successor to an earlier one with a clear republican tendency founded in 1873 by Sebastián Ramos. After the Bourbon Restoration, in 1876, the printing house was renamed "Los Suesos". It had an open workshop on San Lorenzo street, today Pérez Galdós, number 20. Its owner was Manuel Álvarez.
From here came periodical publications with clearly republican tendencies, always in conflict with the authorities of the time. Also notable in its work is an extraordinary edition of the poem Las bodas de las plantas by Viera y Clavijo, published in 1879.
The activity of this printing house continued until the end of the 19th century. In 1896 we find Manuel Álvarez working alongside his brother in a new publishing company based in La Laguna.
