I’m Coping Well

This sculpture titled I’m Coping Well was created in 2014 by the Basque artist based in Tenerife Julio Nieto for his temporary exhibition in the same setting where it is now located. Its presence deeply affected many people who, once the sculpture was removed, decided to start a campaign through social networks to raise funds to acquire it and install it permanently in the city. 

This is how, thanks to a group of citizens, especially the son of the well-known driver Juan Fernández, 10-time Spanish motorsport champion and great lover of Tenerife (who passed away on 22 June 2020), the work was acquired, donated and placed permanently since December 2021 in Plaza de España. 

I’m Coping Well is a piece made of stainless steel, five metres high and weighing almost 450 kilos. It represents a tree-like figure in the form of an atlas or atlante, from whose head intricate branches emerge where universal ideas and thoughts are written and blossom, in which we can all recognise ourselves.

At its base the following legend can be read: We are all an "Atlas" carrying on our shoulders a world of thoughts .
