Taganana Bridge

The need to cross the Taganana ravine and thus connect the residential nuclei of this hamlet in Anaga without complications was a constant demand from the residents throughout the second half of the 19th century.

The first record we find about the construction of a bridge in Taganana is from 1880, when the Civil Government commissioned the chief engineer to carry it out. But it was not until October 1901, more than twenty years later, that the work was put out to tender, with the contract awarded to the contractor Gaspar Fernández for an amount of 4,919 pesetas of the time.

The bridge, built in good ashlar masonry and with hard mortar in its foundations, has a single arch and low walls that close it on the sides. The work was completed in 1904.

This infrastructure was a great advance for the hamlet, as first carts and later motor vehicles were able to connect the nuclei of Iglesia and Portugal comfortably and quickly. Today the area where it stands is known as “El Puente” (The Bridge).
