Javier del Loño Bridge

This bridge was inaugurated on 18 July 1972 with the clear objective of linking the La Salud neighbourhood with Salamanca and, therefore, with the rest of the city. At the time, it was a new and shorter connection between the nerve centre of the city and the populous Chicharrero neighbourhood, without having to access via Venezuela Avenue. 

The bridge is supported by four pairs of pillars that span the great height over which the road runs above the bed of the Santos ravine. On the original railings, as a safety measure, translucent methacrylate fences with a dotted pattern and the Santa Cruz logo were installed, varying between green and blue, colours that prevent bird collisions. 

The bridge is named after Javier del Loño (1917-2006), a doctor, military officer and mayor of Santa Cruz, under whose administration this important infrastructure was carried out.
