The Casino de Tenerife is the oldest private club on the island. It was founded in 1840 by a group of bourgeois who wanted to satisfy their recreational and cultural needs. Its first headquarters was in a room of house number 4 on Plaza de la Candelaria, corner with Candelaria street, just opposite its current location. The progressive prosperity enjoyed by the society allowed the acquisition of the entire block it occupies today.

In 1929 the architect Miguel Martín-Fernández de la Torre drafted the project for the new building we admire today with a very unusual dichotomy: an eclectic exterior, in which the opinion of the members, always attracted by a monumental construction, had much to do; and an interior of marked rationalist style, characterised by its brilliance, agility of resources and innovative spirit.

It is worth highlighting the decoration of the main hall adorned with two splendid canvases by Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre, brother of the architect, as well as that of the hall, with paintings by José Aguiar, not forgetting the two allegories commissioned from the sculptor Francisco Borges Sala.
