Costasur Cinema

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1955 · Authors: Félix Sáenz Marrero

This cinema was designed by the architect Félix Sáenz Marrero in 1951 for the García Escámez neighbourhood. Opened in 1955 as a true neighbourhood cinema, it was known by several names throughout its history: “Costasur”, “Abejera” and “Tabobo”.

With a capacity for 390 spectators, its heyday occurred during the late 1960s and early 1970s, when under the management of the entrepreneur Pallés it was renamed as Somosierra Cinema.

In the following decades, its decline began until its definitive disappearance. Today, the former building houses the Corazón de Jesús Third Age Association.
