Charlot Minicinemas

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1983 · Authors: Félix Sáenz Marrero, Francisco Aznar Ortiz

In 1983, businessman Antonio Álvarez opened a small two-screen cinema complex in the heart of the Salamanca neighbourhood, which he named Minicines Charlot.

The building was designed by architects Félix Sáenz Marrero and Francisco Aznar Ortiz. With a façade that only revealed the existence of a place to show films by the neon of its poster display, the Charlot, with its minimal decoration, could accommodate 310 spectators across its two small screens.

The life of this cinema business was very short, as it ceased operations in 1988, only five years after opening.
