Compañía Cervecera de Canarias (CCC)

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Industrial architecture · Year: 1939

The factory and headquarters of the Compañía Cervecera de Canarias are located on the outskirts of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the heart of the El Perú neighbourhood, occupying a huge site between the Cruz del Señor and the Vuelta de los Pájaros.

This Tenerife brewing company was founded on 7 August 1939 by a group of entrepreneurs led by the former councillor of the capital city council and president of the Tenerife Cabildo between 1931 and 1936, Maximino Acea Perdomo, an entrepreneur with a special enterprising character who led the business until his death in 1984.

The company's first steps were arduous, as they coincided with a very difficult economic situation; the terrible Civil War had just ended and there was one month to go before the outbreak of the Second World War. These circumstances meant that the first bottling did not take place until July 1948, when it was possible to import machinery and specialised personnel from recently defeated Germany, a country with a great tradition in the brewing industry.

CCC was the first commercial name of the beer brewed in Tenerife; in the 1960s it was renamed Dorada. A decade later, the company, in full expansion, built a new and modern factory to replace the old facilities from the 1940s.

In 1994 the Compañía Cervecera de Canarias (CCC) merged with the Sociedad Industrial Canaria (SICAL) of Gran Canaria, manufacturer since 1924 of the famous Tropical beer.

Currently the company has a strong Canarian shareholding that is part of the international group Anheuser-Busch InBev. The company is among the main industrial empires of the Canary Islands.
