Tío Pino Water Reservoir

This water reservoir possibly originated from an earlier one that utilised the waters of the Hierro ravine and irrigated the extensive estate of the owner Sixto Machado Pérez-Ventoso (La Orotava, 1882-London, 1942). 
At the beginning of the 20th century, these lands were on the outskirts of the urban area of Santa Cruz and were dedicated to export agriculture (fruits and vegetables) aimed at the British market; furthermore, the owner introduced a large number of exotic animal species on his property: zebras, gazelles, peacocks, etc., creating a kind of small zoo.
Possibly well into the 20th century, the original water reservoir intended for irrigation of this property and its animals was acquired by the municipal potable water distribution company, carrying out the appropriate reforms for the storage and distribution of supply water intended for the residents of Tío Pino, Camino del Hierro, Tristán urbanisation and surroundings.
