Tenerife Steam Crane

This steam crane, named "Tenerife," was used on the Valleseco dock by the company Cory Brothers and Company Ltd, to load and unload coal barges coming from ships anchored in the port of Santa Cruz. It was built in the Grafton & Co. Engineers workshops in Bedford (England) in 1920. Its machinery was steam-powered and it operated as a jib crane, capable of supporting a load of up to 2,000 kilograms. It moved along rails. It began operation in 1934 and was withdrawn from service in 1956. Today it is located at the entrance of the Escuela Superior de Náutica, on the extension of Anaga Avenue, as a vestige of the port's coal past.
