Transport Interchange

The first bus stations in Santa Cruz were outdoors in Weyler Square and Plaza de España. In 1975 they moved to the Tomé Cano area, although passengers still waited for public transport in the open air. The lines to Anaga departed from and arrived at the stop located at the intersection of Calle de la Marina and Avenida Francisco La Roche, in front of Bar Capricho. In 1981 the first Bus Station in the capital was inaugurated, which would be expanded and improved ten years later. From 17 June 2006 everything was unified with the opening of this Transport Interchange.
The new building was designed by architects José Ángel Domínguez Anadón and Francisco Artengo Rufino who, with their characteristic criteria of strong geometry and exhaustive care in construction details, carried out a building of 66,235 square metres of total surface area, combining the usual services of a station with those of a car park for private vehicles and tram.
On the outside, its appearance disguises the various levels it has through a main façade dominated by glass. This material allows a large amount of natural light to enter the interior, which together with the ventilation is appreciated by users. The curious triangular double-pitched roof separated from the glass volume that crowns it is worth highlighting.
The interior surface consists of six levels. The two lowest are dedicated to parking and facilities for the maintenance of public transport vehicles. The central level includes a large hall and the passenger service area. The next two house offices and garages. The top level is intended for installation housings. On the exterior surface are the bays and exterior ramps.
