Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1977 · Authors: José Ángel Domínguez Anadón, Francisco Artengo Rufino, Carlos Schwartz Pérez, José Domínguez Pastor

On a small plot located at the corner of Imeldo Serís Street (formerly Barranquillo) with Juan de Padrón, stands this construction built with the aim of housing commercial premises, offices and residences. The building was designed in the mid-1970s by the "La Solana" team, made up of architects José Ángel Domínguez Anadón, Francisco Artego, Carlos Schwartz and José Domínguez Pastor.

The work features very dynamic façades in which steel piece structures alternate on the lower part, exposed concrete as framework, cement block cladding, windows and small simple balconies in its layout that conform to the design line of the entire work.

The El Faro building was completed in 1977, a time when the urban environment of that area was still full of classicist and eclectic buildings. With this new building of groundbreaking appearance for the time, the La Solana team of architects tried to break with the past, while also aiming to fit their creation into the urban environment of the place at that moment.
