Military Pavilions

On a large block bounded by Méndez Núñez, Robayna, Callao de Lima and Pi y Margall streets, this construction complex stands, intended to house army chiefs and officers.

The vast site it occupies today was ceded by the City Council to the War Department in 1895. The following year a two-storey building was constructed, accommodating two homes for senior military officers and eight for officers.

After the Civil War, these buildings were demolished to make way for the building we see today. The new work was undertaken by the Patronato de Casas Militares under a project drafted in Madrid in 1945 and executed by the Military Construction Service. It was completed in 1950.

The large-volume building consists of four floors and was originally designed to accommodate nine homes for senior military commanders, 21 for officers and two for the building's porters.
