Seven Islands

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Art · Subcategory: Sculpture · Year: 1987 · Authors: José Abad

The sculptor from Tenerife, Jose9 Abad, created this sculptural ensemble in 1987 for the exterior of the then new headquarters of CajaCanarias.

Made of iron and reaching a maximum height of seven and a half metres, the stylised figures each symbolise one of the islands of the archipelago.

The sculptor, known for his monumental and solid forms, in this case opted for formal stylisation, schematisation and linguistic synthesis.

Seven Islands, located and adapted to a completely urban environment, takes us back to the sculptural representations of primitive African cultures, now reinterpreted with enormous plastic richness.
