Anchor of the "Theseus"

In the gardens located just in front of the Naval Command, we find a large wooden and metal anchor which is thought to have belonged to the ship Theseus , the vessel that brought the famous English naval officer Horatio Nelson (1758-1802) to Tenerife in his unsuccessful attempt to seize Santa Cruz in July 1797.

There is no conclusive evidence that this item belonged to the English fleet that attempted the coup against the city, but in popular sentiment it has been regarded as a commemorative relic of the main military event that took place in Santa Cruz, known as "La Gesta".

Be that as it may, it is an anchor more than two hundred years old that must have belonged to a large ship.
