The Seven Islands

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Art · Subcategory: Sculpture · Year: 1991 · Authors: José Abad

In 1991 the sculptor from La Laguna, Jose9 Abad, created this mural sculpture to be placed at the entrance of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. Made of corten steel and basalt, the stones used, all of different composition, were collected from each of the islands they represent.

The work consisted of two panels, which were modified years later, although maintaining the same spirit, when relocated to a new site following the change of access to the Institution.

This is a sculpture representative of the Archipelago that offers us a firm and powerful physical presence, clearly demonstrating the importance of the material with which it was made.
