Cine Avenida
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1928 · Authors: Otilio Arroyo
This cinema, now disappeared, was located on Buenos Aires Avenue, hence its name. It was designed by the architect Otilio Arroyo for the entrepreneur Eladio Siliuto.
Inaugurated in 1928, its façade, framed within pure eclecticism, featured four large doorways, two lateral and two central, separated by pairs of pilasters.
Inside, with a trapezoidal plan, access was through a vestibule and two long side corridors. Entry from the vestibule was behind the screen, with the projection booth on the opposite side to the entrance and exit of spectators. The hall had stalls and a gallery or "gallinero", both sectors together accommodating 842 spectators.
The Cine Avenida was remodelled in 1932, with the arrival of sound cinema, and for many years functioned as a re-release venue. In the years before its demolition in 1990, the stalls of the old cinema served as a car workshop.
