Ayala Building
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1933 · Authors: Pelayo López y Martín Romero
This building, erected on a large plot located at the corner of Valentín Sanz and Castillo streets, is the work of architect Pelayo López, who drafted the project in 1930 for the developer Asensio Ayala Espinosa.
Through a serious investigation into new construction techniques, Pelayo López proposes a model of classical affiliation with general features of the use of the giant order and opulent forms, given the urban importance of the location where it is situated.
Notable is the volumetric configuration of the property with an elegant belvedere of classical root on the chamfer, which covers much of the terrace, giving a great sense of monumentality to the whole ensemble. The building was completed in 1933 and currently houses an important commercial firm.
