Building of the former El Chinito Pharmacy

Located on the corner of Rambla de Pulido with Álvarez de Lugo street, this four-storey building of eclectic design was projected in 1927 by the architect from La Palma Pelayo López y Martín Romero for the developer Cristóbal Beautell Díaz. Since 1929 it housed the premises of "El Chinito", a popular pharmacy which today is located on the opposite pavement of Álvarez de Lugo street.
The ground floor of the building, once occupied by the pharmacy, is clearly differentiated from the rest of the storeys by a distinct separating element, also featuring a different treatment that tends to accentuate its horizontal character through incised parallel lines running across the entire width of the façade.
The rest of the building in height is organised jointly in bays, the central one somewhat more prominent, where the various openings closed by stone or metal balusters are developed, depending on the floors. The decoration is rich and profuse, based on garlands and adorned corbels.
When the building was completed in 1928 it was a landmark in this urban area, as it broke the monotony of the single-storey houses that extended along Rambla de Pulido from Plaza de Weyler to Plaza de la Paz.
