Practical Artillery School

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1788 · Authors: Fausto Caballero

This facility for artillery shooting practice was located in a place known as El Blanco , situated on the slopes of the La Altura cliff, very close to the Paso Alto castle. It was designed at the end of 1787 by the military engineer Fausto Caballero and inaugurated the following year.

It was a military battery built in ashlar masonry and composed of a parapet attached to the mountainside, with a platform for shooting exercises, where a low wall accommodated two cannons and a mortar.

The life of this practical artillery school was brief, given the dangers it could pose to the nearby land.
