Reclining Figure on One Side
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1958 · Authors: Kenneth Armitage
This reclining figure by the sculptor Kenneth Armitage (Leeds, United Kingdom, 1916–London, United Kingdom, 2002) was another of the sculptures loaned by the British Institute of Barcelona for the First International Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition , held in Santa Cruz in 1973.
The work was made in bronze during 1958–59 and figuratively represents a modern and transgressive version of the human body, opposed to the idealised tradition of classical forms.
Reclining Figure on One Side was located on a concrete base in the square of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Canarias until its return to the British Council of Barcelona after the Exhibition ended.
