Standing Figure with Arms
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: 1962 · Authors: Bernard Meadows
This sculpture, made in 1962 by the renowned British artist Bernard Meadows (Norwich, United Kingdom, 1915–London, United Kingdom, 2005), was temporarily loaned in 1973 by the British Council of Barcelona for the First International Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
It represents a deformed image made in bronze in which the slenderness of its limbs and the compactness of its body stand out, common characteristics in the extraordinary dematerialising and dramatic movement active in English sculpture after World War II.
Standing Figure with Arms was temporarily located in the square of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Canarias (Canary Islands Architects' Association), where it remained until its return to the British Institute of Barcelona.
