Garabote Building

Building designed by the architect José Enrique Marrero Regalado in 1935 under rationalist premises for the owner Ángel Garabote.

The plot on which it stands was characterised by great depth, unlike its façade line facing Costa and Grijalba Street. Marrero, faced with this situation, planned a screen-façade solution, extending the construction inward in two strips or bands, closed at the back by another block. As a result, the complex has an interior block courtyard; an open space for common areas that provides light and ventilation to the large interior façades.

The street-facing presence, with its four floors, is completely symmetrical. From the second floor upwards, there is a highlighted central body; this is where the galleries and balconies run. 

This property, due to its intelligent solution and interesting typology, is one of the most representative of the rationalist stage of architect Marrero Regalado.
